The Conservancy was first registered in the year 2000 as a voluntary association of landowners. In 2007 this voluntary association was registered as a Non-profit Company in terms of the South African Companies Act and is currently in the process of being registered as a Public Benefit Organisation under South African law.
It is governed by a Management Committee (MANCO) annually elected by members. MANCO is responsible for the daily management and control of the Conservancy’s finances, administration, contracts, strategy, policy development and communication. Currently the Chairman acts as the Chief Executive Officer of MANCO.
The Conservancy is, amongst others, a member of Conservation@Work, an umbrella organisation for Conservation bodies in the Western Cape, and of the Agulhas Biosphere Initiative.
