  2. Mission and Vision

What is our purpose?  What do we do?   Why are we useful?  Who benefits from what we do?

The following five paragraphs would provide the answers to these questions and articulate the reason why we exist.

MISSION STATEMENT

    • We conserve the natural resources of the Klein Swartberg Mountain providing critical ecosystem dependence to the socio-economy of the Overberg region.
    • We restore the ecological balance of the mountain and its original biodiversity where it has been damaged by invasive alien infestation, changing fire cycles and human activities.
    • We protect the  mountain as an irreplaceable jewel within the Cape Floral Kingdom, housing species and populations of plants-, fish-, and frogs, some of which have become extinct elsewhere and occur nowhere else on the planet.
    • We promote and initiate the development of the eco-tourism potential of the mountain and the sustainable career opportunities emanating from it.
    • We promote an understanding with all stakeholders of the irreplaceable value of a well-maintained biodiverse ecosystem generating socio-economic benefits into the regional economy.

We believe:

“Each journey starts in a direction with a chosen destination in mind.  The clearer the view an organisation has of where it is going, the more likely are the chances of getting there.”

Emanating from this belief, members have unanimously agreed to the destination we have in mind for this unique little inselberg, and we named it our Vision-2030.

A preferred eco-tourism destination to a unique fynbos jewel by end 2030 – an established ecosystem reserve, integrated into the regional economy of the Overberg as a beneficial socio-economic multiplier.
