Our Objectives

To realise our Vision-2030, the snapshot perspective of the future we strive for, we have three main priorities:

• 80% of the entire mountain area cleared of alien infestation by end-2030, and
• First hikers and mountain-bikers on the first sections of the first trail by September 2025, and
• Ongoing assembly of a data bank of information and expanding our network of research partners and collaborators.

Our Impact

• By March 2024 we have cleared 2 827 hectares (35% of the mountain area) of all alien infestation and converted this area to maintenance phase where the recovery of lost biodiversity has already become evident.
• Since 2021 we have executed controlled ecological burns of 1 790 hectares (22% of the mountain area).
• These burns resulted in a 100% success rate on about 680 hectares and an average of 75% success rate on approximately 1100 hectares.
• During the past three years we have provided more than 12 000 person days of full-time employment and sustainable livelyhoods to some 20 households in the community of Genadendal, the historic Moravian Mission settlement.
• Our contractor has, during the past decade, been enabled to establish his General Services small business as an independent enterprise with all equipment, vehicles and appurtenances fully paid for and without debt.
